~~ Swami Vivekananda's First Delhi Journey ~~ Swami Vivekananda arrived in Delhi for the first time at the age of 27. In Delhi he stayed at the home of Seth Shyamal Das. He had left from Merut without telling anyone. In Delhi, he visited the places of historical importance. Later while visiting several foreign places, he would sometimes recall Delhi and write in his letters that those places looked like Delhi. ~ ~ History of Marathi Community in Delhi ~ ~  In Delhi's history, there was a time when Maratha Empire used to rule over Delhi. Today, the Marathi community in Delhi have mixed with local culture very well. They love Marathi food as well as Delhi's local Chhole-Bhature. From the pages of history, after getting unexpected defeat in the third war of Panipat, a lot of Marathas started living in Delhi and nearby Haryana. Later in 1772, Mahadji Shinde had brought and allowed exiled Mughal ruler Shah Alam II to sit on Delhi's throne; in exchange of Marathas getting most of the administration powers.  From the pages of history, here is an interesting description of the history of Marathas in Delhi: 

दिल्ली के अलीपुर गाँव का इतिहास

~ ~ History of Alipur Village in Delhi ~ ~ As the earliest known part of this village, it is known that the village was established by a person named Sri Pal who came here from Kheda Khurd in year 1368. The earlier name of this village was Haripur. Later the village was purchased by a Muslim named Sheikh Ali and hence it was named as Ali Pur. The history of Alipur village of Delhi shines with its fight against the British rule. People of this village revolted against the British rule so strongly that the British declared whole village as "Baghi". 78 members of this village were hanged/executed by the British for their fight for freedom. ऋतु राणा / दैनिक जागरण
